In one of his earlier visit to Earth, Thanos killed Arthur Douglas and his family to eradicate any witness. His father Mentor took the deceased body of Arthur and his daughter Heather to Titan. Heather becomes Moondragon and without any memory of his past, Arthur's spirit lives in a new humanoid body as Drax the Destroyer, a means to defeat Thanos.
He befriended Iron Man, aided The Avengers and Mar-Vell to destroy The Mad Titan when he wielded the Cosmic Cube. However, he was absent when Thanos obtained the Infinity Gauntlet and was defeated again. Thinking Mar-Vell has robbed him of the chance to defeat Thanos, Drax attacks him but soon they band together to save Titan from ISAAC. He meets his daughter Moondragon and she eventually caused his demise.
Years after when Thanos was resurrected by Death, Drax was brought back to life as well and he becomes a member of Infinity Watch, alongside whom he witnessed Infinity Abyss, battled Hulk, Mephisto and an enraged Thor (Blood & Thunder). Upon the Watch getting disbanded, he drifted and was framed for a massive Skrull genocide (Earthfall).
He opposed the Annihilation Wave with Richard Rider, before finally killing Thanos. Following the Phalanx Invasion on Kree empire, led by Ultron, Drax joined the newest team of Guardians of the Galaxy alongside Adam Warlock, Gamora, Groot, Phyla-Vell and Rocket Raccoon, reassembled by Star-Lord. When he was trapped in the Cancerverse, with Star-Lord and Nova, Drax killed Thanos over and over again (The Thanos Imperative).
