Jason Wynn, former boss of Al Simmons and CIA chief, also the man responsible for Al’s assassination at the first place is being suspicions of Al’s best friend Terry Fitzgerald after having reports of suspicion on him by his men. He thinks that Terry is gathering classified information that might prove harmful to him. So, Wynn is planning to get rid of him as he did before with Al. With all the power and resources at his disposal and Simmons out of the equation, it’s about time he wipes Terry out of the picture. Meanwhile, two agents of the agency pays a visit on behalf of their boss to Terry for properly advising him about the dire consequences he and his family might face if he takes any further steps against Wynn. Sam and Twitch is still troubled with the murder of Billy Kincaid.

Spawn is still ridden with the shock of his own death and the separation with his widowed wife Wanda Blake. He was having a booze party along with the street bums of New York that he gave protection to but also remembers who his killer is. His old friend Chapel did it once and now he is confident that he can kill Simmons one more time. The clown henchman of the devil; The Violator recalls an age old encounter of him with the Hellspawn of Medieval Age which took place ages ago. As his pathetic butt was being ridiculously kicked out by the Medieval Spawn, he describes a fake story of his own featuring fearsome counters to promote his viciousness. This one becomes an imaginary and vague narration of the evil of his own sadistic history to entertain himself a little.

Spawn – Revelation

Following the path of “Beginnings” and “Dark Discoveries”, Revelation is the third storyline of Image Comics' Spawn monthly ongoing series featuring the titular hero and his afterlife adventures. The story took place back in 1993 from issues #12-15 of the first monthly ongoing comic series of Spawn and the character Badrock from Youngblood also makes an appearance along with two other of his team members in between the issues. The plot and artwork credit goes to the character’s legendary creator Todd McFarlane (Amazing Spider-Man, Image United). This book leads the chronicles of Spawn to the next chapter: Escalation.

Spawn – Dark Discoveries | Comics

An unscheduled demolition by the Mafia leveled up an entire building that belonged to a multinational firm who refused to cooperate with them. The flattening was performed by a cyborg assassin called Overtkill who also trashed the army troops on his way home. Spawn goes against Overtkill, hired by the local mob that is clearly disturbed by his interference in their work lately.

As he keeps perishing the goons and they are fade up on keep losing their men to him. After a good fight, Overtkill outmatches Spawn, causes him to run away only to come back when fully prepared. He soon demands a re-match against the cyborg killer. They met in the alleyways and fights again but this time Spawn’s heavy array of weaponaries proved more than his new cybernetic foe could handle.

Also, Spawn meets Cogliostro, another Hellspawn but he is an opposite to the clown Violator, he acts more like an advocate of him. A centuries old powerful arch nemesis from the side of Haven named Angela makes her appearance in the game. Angela used to prey upon the hosts of Hellspawn from the Medieval era to modern time by disguising herself as a helpless woman desperately seeking for protection.

Upon the arrival of her prey, she slowly lured them all into her trap before hunting them down. Though she was proven very effective for centuries to track down and hunt the Hellspawns, she faced the current Spawn only to be defeated by him for the first time ever in the history of her entire kind.

Spawn – Dark Discoveries

“Dark Discoveries” is the second story arc of the Spawn monthly ongoing series from Image Comics preceded by the “Beginnings” storyline of the same series. The arc collects issue #06-09 and issue #11 from the first volume of the Spawn series, written by series creator Todd McFarlane (Amazing Spider-Man, Image United) with writer Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta) and Neil Gaiman (Death, The Sandman).

A Fight To Standstill

Apart from writing the plots for the series, McFarlane drawn the masterful story pages all by himself. This story arc is next succeeded by "Spawn - Revelation" and like the previous line, issues regarding the tale was a tribute to comic book legend Stan Lee (Doctor Strange, Fantastic Four), Rob Liefeld (X-Force, Youngblood), Harvey Kurtzman and Gil Kane.

Al Simmons was a former member of U.S. Marine Crops, also worked with the C.I.A. as a special agent trained for black ops. He was brutally murdered by his fellow agent in a twisted conspiracy while in the line of duty. Just because he was leading the life of an assassin in earth, he was sent straight to Hell upon death. One of the prime ruler of Hell, only known as Malebolgia offers him to join his cause, a war against Heaven and become his appointed herald, the Hellspawn. To see his widowed wife Wanda Blake for one last time, Simmons struck the deal with the devil at a cost that he wasn't completely aware of. With a burnt and disfigured appearance he returns to earth with his new super powers from Hell.

With his newly gained uncanny super-powers, Al Simmons desperately tries to re-construct his appearance many times but is unable to do so with perfection. Also he completely shatters emotionally when he come to know that five years have already passed since he had died and his beloved wife Wanda has since moved on with his best friend Terry Fitzgerald in Al's long time absence. Soon, he meets a clown like demon called The Violator who happens to be one of Malebolgia's evil lieutenants and the clown suddenly engages in a fierce battle with Spawn. Seeing this nonsense conflict, Malebolgia steps in to stop them from tearing each other and with no one left there is to care for, Al is now doubtful about his own destiny. He then goes after a psychotic child murderer who escaped the grasp of justice in plain sight and still at large.

Spawn – Beginnings is a five part storyline telling the origin story of the superhero Spawn, collecting issue #01-05. Artist Todd McFarlane (Amazing Spider-Man, Image United) acted as both writer and penciler for the story. It was almost twenty years ago when McFarlance created this best selling ongoing comics series from Image Comics. The issues related to this story were dedicated to the comic book legends like Jack Kirby (Challengers of the Unknown, New Gods), Steve Ditko, Joe Shuster and Will Eisner respectively. The storyline is followed by the second storyline of the series titled "Spawn – Dark Discoveries".

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Al Simmons is the second of the three children their parents had. When he grew up, Simmons joined the U.S. Marine Corps and soon became Lieutenant Colonel. Later he moved to the United States Secret Service and is then transferred to the Central Intelligence Agency by Jason Wynn; director of CIA.

Spawn | Comics

He recruited Simmons in a special top secret division with the jurisdiction in every internal and external affair out there. Often having less satisfactory explanation from director Wynn regarding their operation, Simmons was always tasked with the bloodiest missions. During a covert operation, Al Simmons is burned alive by his fellow operative Bruce Stinson AKA Chapel on order from his superiors for purpose unknown.

As soon as he died, Simmons was sent to Hell as he led his life as an assassin and there he agrees to became the host of Hellspawn, to serve Malebolgia; one of the rulers of Hell. Malebolgia resurrects him so that he could see his wife Wanda Blake again for one last time.

Though returned to Earth, he discovers that five years have already passed since he died and he cannot change back to his normal visage permanently even if he wanted to. Wanda has also moved on with his best friend Terry Fitzgerald and married him. With a powerful demon henchman of Malebolgia called the Violator monitoring his every move, Simmons is now to decide his upcoming actions as the eternal servant of Hell.

Spawn is a popular comic book character of anti-hero category from Image Comics. Artist Todd McFarlane (Amazing Spider-Man, Image United) has created this character and also wrote many issues for the comic series.

Writers like Neil Gaiman (Death, The Sandman), Alan Moore (Watchmen, Youngblood), Brian Michael Bendis (Sam and Twitch, Ultimate Fantastic Four) and Paul Jenkins (The Darkness, Hellblazer) filled in as the plot makers for the core title and spin-off's. Apart from McFarlance, artist Greg Capullo (Batman – New 52, Haunt) did a good job on Spawn. Marc Silvestri (Cyberforce, Hunter-Killer) also appeared a few times as penciller.

Herald of The Devil

Till date, Spawn is considered as one of the greatest Image Comics title after The Walking Dead and Invincible. The series led to the release of many notable spin-offs like Curse of the Spawn, Sam & Twitch and Spawn – The Dark Ages. There was a live-action Spawn movie in 1997 starring actor Michael Jai White in the titular role.
