Known among the nine realms for his notorious nature of treachery, Loki Laufeyson is the adopted son of Odin All-Father and half-brother to his blood-son Thor. Oribinally, born to Queen Farbauti and King Laufey of The Frost Giants of Jotunheim, he was small kid who was an embarrassment to his parents. When Laufey was defeated by Odin in battle, All-Father noticed a grieving Loki nearby and took him to rise as his own out of honor and obligation. Actually, all of these were a ploy he created with his future-self so that he can become a god by tricking both Laufey and Odin.
God of Mischief
Since Asgardians were a fan of strength and bravery, Thor was their favorite one instead of Loki and this always angered him in jealousy. While he excelled in sorcery and tricks, all of his gifts were often overlooked by everyone around him. Proclaiming himself to be "God of Mischief", he planned to kill Thor and rule Asgard over and over for years but remained unsuccessful so far. Over time, his harmless pranks on folks starts to get more serious and his intentions starts to seem very clear. As he elevated his mischievous tricks to extended levels, he starts calling himself as "God of Evil".
Ages of Thunder
Asgard has their fair share of history of battles with the race of Frost Giants for millennia. One such fight with them led to one of them falling and destroying a great wall of Asgard. Then a craftsman came to them who offered Odin to fix that wall within a year in exchange for one thing and it was Amora the Enchantress. Since Asgardians gained wisdom and youth upon eating golden apples of Yggdrasill during spring and only Enchantress among them had the power to pick those for her people, they were hesitant to this deal.
Odin agreed to his offer after Loki talked him into this and gave that man only six months to finish the wall, which is an impossible feat to pull. However, the craftsman eventually came close to his end of deal by almost finishing the wall in lesser time than given, causing an enraged All-Father to order Loki to stall him anyhow so that he cannot finish it within promised time. He tricked the craftsman's steed by posing as a mare, leading him to fail and then it was revealed to be another Frost Giant in disguise. Thor showed up as it attempted to attack and killed it with Mjolnir before it could do anything.
Another one of his trickery has got him banished from Asgard and he wandered without a direction for a long time while starving. An eagle approached him with a deal to give him food in his hours of desperation and asks for Enchantress. Loki talked her into coming with him and that eagle took his real form of a Frost Giant took Amora to be his queen. Asgard was starving since no one was able to golden apples for them and finding out what happened, Odin forced the trickster to rescue her. He was almost successful when the Frost Giant confronted him for his deception moments before being killed by Thor.
