Deathstroke – Gods of War | Comics

Someone is trying to take down Slade Wilson, the world's greatest assassin and he is betrayed by his trusted allies.

Though Deathstroke, The Terminator has a reputation of being the world's greatest mercenary and deadliest assassin, his alter ego of Slade Wilson is of an adventurer's. When you have more than 600 kills in your career, they have to take you seriously.

His job requires him to travel a lot and his middle-man Tiggs just booked him a contract, which will take him back to Russia, despite Putin himself had asked him not to go back there again. However, his current assignment dictates that he takes out a target named "Possum" for some easy money this time.

There, Slade gotten busy with his contact Angelica in bed and her resources proved to be very useful when he gets to work. All of the targets from his list never saw him coming before he got the drop on them. As they had Possum in their custody, she informed Deathstroke that these people were trying to set him up.

Before figuring out what is going on, he is taken down a frequency transmission and his captive kills Angelica before she could help him. Asking Slade to spill out a code, which he can hear, the ugly mark starts stabbing him on the back with his sword.

Putting Slade's healing factor on some serious test, Possum states that Odysseus wants his head but before he could deliver a killing blow, the mercenary took his sword back and shoves it up on the scum's throat, effectively ending his worthless life.

Briefly tending to his wound to stop bleeding, Wilson is attacked by a dozen of backup assassins, whom he slaughtered with ruthless efficiency. As he is bombarded and barely walks, his still not dead enemy watches from distant. Arriving at the doorstep of an old man called I-Ching, Slade collapses on floor before him.

Waking up fully healed, Wilson realizes that he is reverted back to his old, young self again with his right eye being restored but I-Ching disappears telling him to watch his back and he ended up finding a hologram of a swordsman in mask. A person introducing himself as Red Fury walks in to point out that is Deathstroke's next target.

Before they could catch up, more hired killers appear out of nowhere and overwhelmed him but he quickly starts dispatching them all. Meanwhile, Lady Shiva called in Slade's old drinking buddy Bronze Tiger to lead the League of Assassins and hunt Odysseus down.

Trying to find out what he has actually missed, he drank up a truth serum Red Fury gave him earlier only to have visions of his imprisoned son Jericho in a test facility. Slade apparently fought to free his son from captivity who loses control and starts killing of scientists who used the boy to bring Odysseus back to life.

He then ran into Joker's girlfriend and Suicide Squad recruit Harley Quinn, who claimed to have known the locations of his children but is pissed off at him for selling her out previously. Hoping to get out of his clutches, Harley leads Deathstroke into a trap where he has a face-off against The Dark Knight, Batman!

Deathstroke – Gods of Wars

Initially, there was a short-lived version of Deathstroke monthly ongoing series that was the second line of publication, started in wake of The New 52 following the reality-altering "Flashpoint" crossover event and DC Comics re-launched this enigmatic character of theirs with a third monthly volume in 2014.

"Gods of War" marks the first storyline from that continuation that collects the first six issues plotted and drawn by Tony Daniel (Superman/Wonder Woman – Power Couple, Superman/Wonder Woman – War and Peace). Pitting his anti-hero image up front, Daniel portrays a new beginning for the deadly assassin.

Odysseus Has Risen!

Task Force X member Harley Quinn, Gotham's self-appointed protector Batman, master assassin Lady Shiva, vigilante adventurer Bronze Tiger as well as two of Slade's estranged children Jericho and Ravager was part of the puzzle in the running story.

In spite of him being world’s deadliest assassin, Wilson got punked by his trusted allies. Mysteries revolving around primary antagonist Odysseus may seem a little off the place but a foundation for his forthcoming adventures are build up. Slade Wilson will be stepping into a larger mess up next in the "God Killer" arc, feuding with some gods for real!

Batgirl – Death Wish | Comics

As she continues to train with Batman, Batgirl prepares to encounter the unbeatable assassin Lady Shiva one year later.

In spite of her superior training, Batgirl takes a punch from a thug during patrol, which Batman notices and tries to figure out what caused her to lose focus. Oracle calls in to inform Cassandra Cain that she has located the complex where the group of government agents she tussled with earlier has her tape and other evidence to identify her.

With approval from her mentor, she heads to Langley, Virginia and breaks in evading every security measure like they were nothing to steal physical proof of her being such as blood samples and video tape. Barbara talks to Bruce concerning for the girl and he later sends her after the rogue agent Masters, who killed one of her friends.

Batgirl then meets Robin in the middle of a mob shooting where one was chasing a mob boss and another is seeking an assassin. The Boy Wonder is astound and shocked to see her bullet dodging skills with all the exit wounds on her body left by her trainer David Cain. She is shot by the killer with cybernetics named "Deadeye" but still takes him down.

Next up, she had to approach another fellow costumed vigilante Spoiler after retrieving one million dollar and a ransom note from gang feud. They got into the case together because the latter wanted to take part in this adventure and eventually sorted everything out in the end before agreeing to donate the money to a children's hospital.

Barbara Gordon calls in for Batman after picking up master assassin David Cain on the nuclear weapons storage of Hanford Island through satellite. He then teases the Caped Crusader through security feed to go there and face him. Feeling responsible for her father, Cassandra wanted in but is denied and left to keep a watch on Gotham.

The Dark Knight walks straight into a trap set by Cain and he goes on taking a shot at her young daughter. Turns out, he was hired by an individual who has physically suffered at the hands of Batgirl a year ago and is part of organized crime in Gotham, only wanting her to be taken care of with no knowledge of what she is to the person he hired for the job.

After she takes down a suicide bomber, Barbara talks to her about how exciting the experience is for the first time and how it was a rush for Babs at the beginning, which reminds the young protégé of how a year have passed of her deal with Lady Shiva. So, telling Oracle to run simulation for Shiva, she goes to study the lethal assassin.

In the mean time, Barbara talks to Batman about how she is worried that it's been nearly a year Cassandra has fought Shiva but she never told Babs about it. Bruce points out that only by facing Wu-San in combat, Batgirl can move past her death wish.

Besides, they have been keeping tracks of her confrontation with powerful rivals like Bizarro and Shadow Thief lately after moving on to her own cave, which was quite impressive progress on her part. Oracle still protests about letting her go ahead with what she is up to fearing the outcome but The Dark Knight allowed her to continue nevertheless.

Finally, that fateful night arrives when Cassandra prepares herself for a face-off and Barbara tries to talk her out of her deadly duel with Shiva in a ditch attempt to throw her away from the path of a certain suicide. So, she paralyzed Babs with a nerve strike before apologizing for doing that and heading over to a rooftop of Gotham City to meet her fate.

Batgirl – Death Wish

The seventeen year old young heroine Cassandra Cain returns to her Batgirl cowl with the third story arc "Batgirl – Death Wish" from the first monthly ongoing comic-book series of the character by DC Comics in 2003, collecting issues #17-20, 22, 23, 25.

Writer Chuck Dixon (Batgirl – Year One, Robin – Year One) joins series regular Kelley Puckett (Batgirl – A Knight Alone, Batgirl – Silent Running) and artist Damion Scott (Robin/Batgirl – Fresh Blood, Robin – To Kill a Bird) in a journey to take the Silent Knight of Gotham into a new height by pitting her up against major league players out there.

The Inevitable Rematch

Not only has her relationship with Oracle strengthened whom she sees as a motherly figure during the events of "Death Wish", it also sets out her feud with her biological mother and the unbeatable assassin Lady Shiva to set her record straight on how good she really is. Cassandra had a chance to come across her father David Cain as well.

One good thing this storyline does in particular is that Cassandra gets an up close interaction with other allies of Bat-Family like Robin and Spoiler, which helped her bond with them as they worked together and humanize herself further. More exciting development will be seen on the upcoming "Fists of Fury" arc as it tie-in with "Joker – Last Laugh".

Batgirl – A Knight Alone | Comics

Batman pushes Batgirl to regain her former battle prowess and in her weakest state, she faces Lady Shiva.

Following her encounter with a runaway psychic, Batgirl lost the ability to predict movement of her opponents and ended up getting shot multiple times. Batman is not allowing her to patrol the streets of Gotham City anytime soon until she become worthy of the costume once again. Her defense is gone and it got her ass kicked during sparring sessions.

So, she starts training in combat knowledge from the scratch to build a better defense system like everyone else of the Bat-Family now that she cannot predict the moves of her opponent. She trains for a whole week straight and then gets beat again.

On her constant insisting, Batman opens up to her about the tragedy of Jason Todd, the second Robin he recruited after Nightwing and how he was killed by The Joker, something he is not going to allow to happen again. When he goes out of town, Cassandra decided to continue vigilantism without the cowl yet Oracle figured it out anyway.

Barbara thinks that Cassandra can fight way better than her but for some reason it seems that she is always looking for danger. Later that night, she sees Lady Shiva during patrol and then follows her into a luxurious restaurant of the city to find out what she is up to. She sits there for long for Shiva to make a move but nothing happens at all.

Then she notices a young woman walking in with armored guards and immediately assumes her as the target before jumping in to save her only to be knocked down to the ground by a left cross. Seeing no other way to save the girl, she lured Shiva away from killing the girl by challenging her into a duel and got beaten down one more time.

Cassandra wakes up later in an ambulance with a broken right arm but jumps out of it anyway. Shiva showed up again to collect a bracelet which she lost during their fight earlier and reveals that she came here to fight Cassandra but is disappointed to find her not up to a challenge. She knocks Shiva out with a cheap shot while handing the bracelet over.

Her training with Batman doesn't go well and the latter believes that it will take another year or so for her to be wearing the Batgirl costume again. She asks Oracle to send a message to Shiva and they meet on a rooftop that night. Shiva starts knocking down Cassandra before she could explain that she needs a favor from her and they agree for a price.

Meanwhile, Batman pays a visit to David Cain and watches one of the tapes which show how he trained Cassandra to be a killer, leading the Caped Crusader to conclude that all Cain did was abuse her. However, he is here for two police officers he killed a year prior in Gotham and a vengeful Dark Knight unleashes onto the world's deadliest assassin.

When her mentor returns, she asks him to hit her as she is ready now and surprisingly, she is able to dodge every time with her retained defensive skills. Turns out, she made a deal with Shiva, who would train her to make her able to predict the movements of her opponent and in exchange they will fight each other to death exactly a year later.

Next up, Batgirl had a brief encounter with Cain in Gotham and a faceoff with a metahuman. Afterwards, she gets entangled with a group of C.I.A. agents while trying to save the life of FBI sharp shooter Agent Johnson, who was actually hired to kill her. Realizing that he is a good man, Cassandra tries her best to help him to start over.

Batgirl – A Knight Alone

"A Knight Alone" marks the second storyline from first Batgirl monthly ongoing series by writer Scott Peterson (Batman – Kings of Fear, Underworld Unleashed) and Kelley Puckett (Batgirl – Fists of Fury, Batgirl – Silent Running) alongside artist Damion Scott (Robin/Batgirl – Fresh Blood, Robin – To Kill a Bird) through issues #07-11 and 13-14.

After making a smashing debut in 2000 as a prominent heroine of DC Comics, Cassandra Cain is stripped of her ability that made her so special by the end of her first solo arc. At the same time she is faced by the deadly warrior Lady Shiva but only ended up being knocked out other than getting killed to set up a larger plot to develop in future.

Back in The Costume

Batman makes guest appearance to mentor his newest recruit and goes after assassin David Cain regarding the events of "Batman – No Man's Land" when he killed two cops after his attempt on the life of Commissioner Gordon failed. From this point, he becomes a recurring antagonist character for The Dark Knight and his young protégé.

There was a few series of action to develop the silent knight into a more effective vigilante for Gotham. Cassandra continues her adventure as Batgirl in the next story titled "Death Wish" where she makes new friends and face old enemies once again.

Batgirl | Comics

The butt-kicking heroine Batgirl has been a vital part of Batman Family ever since she made her million dollar debut and many who carried the mantle later.

Originally, Batman never had plans to recruit sidekicks in his fight against crime but over the years, he found young Dick Grayson who became the first Robin; The Boy Wonder. Then the niece of Kathy Kane AKA Batwoman, Betty Kane became a costumed aid to his crime-fighting as Bat-Girl but she later took the alias of Flamebird and moved on.

Another young woman who admired the ways of the Caped Crusader of Gotham City was the daughter of Police Commissioner James Gordon, Barbara Gordon. She became obsessed with the legendary crime-fighter after moving into the city. Her infatuation only increased when she discovered that her father actually works with him to serve justice.

Barbara had a photographic memory and this gifted young lady graduated high school at the age of sixteen. Continued to prepare herself, she enrolled into martial arts classes and even expressed interest to work with law enforcement but both her father and local FBI office had to turn her down because she did not meet the height requirements.

Year One
To fight these prejudices, Babs decides to take a different path to fulfill her dreams of serving the law by becoming a vigilante like her idol. She showed up at a Masquerade Ball to stop costumed villain Killer Moth wearing a feminine version of Bat-costume, introducing herself as "Batgirl" to the audience in the presence of billionaire Bruce Wayne.

Unaware of his secret identity as Batman, she rescues him from the villain and later is visited by the Dynamic Duo. Though her idol was a harsh critic of her ways, Robin tries to befriend their young ally and try to teach her ropes of vigilantism. She then goes to Justice Society of America, hoping to meet Black Canary and become her apprentice instead.

Babs was told by JSA member Wildcat to give up but she doesn't and Doctor Fate predicts "triumph and tragedy" in her foreseeable future. Although The Dark Knight didn't approve her reckless ways, he sent her a new Batcycle and batarangs through his partner Dick Grayson before she was finally recruited into the Bat-Family.

Nightwing: Year One
After having inevitable fallout with his mentor, Dick Grayson had his final night as Robin and was fired by Batman for disobedience. He had a talk with Superman and Deadman before donning a different costume and a new identity of Nightwing before heading back to Gotham City to meet with Commissioner Gordon and eventually, Batgirl.

She wonders where does it leaves her and suggests Dick should things between them to strictly business, because of his alien girlfriend Starfire of the Teen Titans. These two then take a short round at Arkham Asylum before paying a visit to Penguin at his Iceberg Lounge. Barbara even tries to mend his relationship with Bruce as much as she could.

The Killing Joke
The Joker escapes Arkham and decides to show Commissioner Gordon how an average man can go insane by "One Bad Day". He shows up on his doorstep and when Barbara opened it, he shot her in the spine before taking a few photo graphs of her naked body. She is left paralyzed by the damage the bullet did to her body and her career as Batgirl was over.

No Man's Land
Following a series of unfortunate events and a massive earthquake, Gotham City becomes a war zone and government of United States declares separation from it. During this time, vigilante hero Huntress wore the cowl of Batgirl to inspire fear among the criminals that let loose on the city but she fails and hands over the costume to Batman.

During this time, Cassandra Cain came to Gotham after spending nine years as a homeless youth on street. She saved the life of Commissioner Gordon from her father David Cain, a lethal assassin who also trained The Dark Knight. With blessing from Oracle, she then wore the outfit to become the fourth and perhaps the best one to take over the mantle.

A fictional DC Comics heroine who often assisted Batman in various monthly ongoing series as well as her own, Batgirl was introduced as Betty Kane back in 1961 by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff, only to be replaced by Barbara Gordon afterwards. The idea of the character was later re-defined by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino in 1967.

Following veteran writer Alan Moore (Rogue Trooper, Watchmen) working on the character, the role is changed again by writer Kelley Puckett and artist Damion Scott (All-New Ghost Rider – Legend, Spectacular Spider-Man – Here There Be Monsters) in 1999 with the inclusion of Cassandra Cain, who would receive her own monthly series.

Among all the character who ever assume the role of the titular heroine, Cassandra was the best who could hold her against the likes of her biological father David Cain and mother Lady Shiva. Although Stephanie Brown briefly tried to take on the role after trying her luck as the first female Robin and Spoiler beforehand but wasn't as good as Cain.

The Perfect Protégé

As a result of the "Flashpoint" crossover event, The New 52 wave is launched where Barbara Gordon took the mantle once again in a brand-new monthly ongoing series of a different timeline of reality. Both Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown also serve respectively Orphan as and Spoiler for the extended Batman Family from time to time.

Batgirl has also been a popular pop-culture icon aside from being a very popular DC Comics character and appeared on several other media as well. Animated TV shows like Batman – The Animated Series (1992), The New Batman Adventures (1997) and The Batman (2004) had the heroine appeared on a nearly regular basis in a vital role.

Notable video game titles like The Adventures of Batman & RobinBatman: Rise of Sin Tzu and Batman: Arkham Knight has included her in past as well. A live-action Batgirl film portraying Barbara Gordon version of the character and directed by Joss Whedon for DC Extended Universe was announced back in 2017 that have yet to see progress.
